Shilajit Resin vs Powder vs Capsules: Which Form Is Best?
All shilajit is not created equal. The form you choose has a bigger effect on the experience than the brand on the label, and the difference between resin and the other forms is large enough to be worth understanding before you buy.
Resin
Resin is the raw, purified form of shilajit. It comes out of the rock as a thick, dark substance, gets cleaned of dirt and rock fragments, and gets jarred. There is no further processing, no binding agents, and no carrier substances added.
This is the most concentrated form, with the highest level of active compounds per gram. It dissolves cleanly in warm water and gives you the rawest possible experience of the ingredient.
Powder
Powdered shilajit is typically made by spray-drying resin onto a carrier substance, often maltodextrin or another inert powder. The carrier dilutes the active material, which is why powders almost always have a lower fulvic acid percentage than the resin they were made from.
Powders are easier to scoop and measure, but you're paying for filler weight that contributes nothing to the active dose.
Capsules
Capsules add another layer on top of powder. Most contain a small dose of shilajit powder mixed with binders, flow agents, and a gelatin or vegetable shell. The actual amount of active material per capsule is often a fraction of what a single dose of resin delivers.
Capsules are the most convenient form, but the convenience comes at a cost in both potency and price per active gram.
Side by side
If we normalize all three forms to a single daily dose of 300 milligrams of pure shilajit, resin is the most cost-effective option in nearly every comparison we've run. A typical 30-gram resin jar lasts roughly three months. The same active dose in capsule form usually requires three to four times the price for the same duration.
If convenience is the top priority, capsules win. If potency, purity, and value win, resin wins.
