How to Take Black Seed Oil | Daily Dose, Timing & Routine
Black seed oil is one of the easiest supplements to add to a daily routine. The dose is small, the timing is flexible, and the only real question most people have is how to handle the taste. This guide walks through the full pattern most of our customers settle into.
Daily dose
One teaspoon (about 5 mL) of cold-pressed oil is the standard daily dose, and the one most traditional sources recommend. That delivers a meaningful amount of thymoquinone from a high-quality bottle without overdoing it.
Some adults take up to a tablespoon a day during the colder months for additional immune support. Others split the dose, taking a half teaspoon morning and evening. Both work.
How to take it
The taste is peppery and slightly bitter, in the same family as a strong olive oil. The simplest way is straight from the spoon, followed by a sip of water. Most people get used to it within a week.
If you would rather mask the taste, mix the teaspoon into a spoonful of raw honey. The combination is traditional across multiple cultures and works well. You can also drizzle it over warm food, but avoid cooking with it directly. High heat damages the active compounds you paid for.
When to take it
Morning, on an empty stomach or with a light breakfast, is the most common pattern. Some prefer evening with dinner. Both are fine. The single most important factor is consistency. A teaspoon every day will outperform a tablespoon taken twice a week.
If you are also taking shilajit, space them out by 15 to 30 minutes. There is no negative interaction, but you will get a cleaner read on how each one is making you feel.
Storage and shelf life
Store the bottle in a cool, dark place. Out of direct sunlight, away from heat sources. The fridge is fine but not required if the kitchen stays cool. A cold-pressed, unrefined oil in dark glass typically holds its potency for 12 to 18 months unopened, and 4 to 6 months once opened.
If the oil ever smells sharp, sour, or paint-like, that is a sign of oxidation. Stop using it. A good bottle should smell peppery, slightly herbal, and warm.
